There
are two areas of Mojacar, the beach (playa) and the town (pueblo).
The town is cut into the
hillside perched on the foothills of the Sierra Cabrera mountains, overlooking the
Mediterranean coastline. It is called the "hanging village" as
the houses look as though they are hanging off the mountain.
A
magnet for artists of all disciplines
the craft stalls are overloaded with quality goods and paintings.
It is easy to
forget you are in the 21st century as you walk through the narrow white streets, until you emerge into the plaza where you are struck
by the Mediterranean, sharing the view of those great Moorish generals of
days long ago.
History merges with the present here as you
find yourself travelling forward in time to the bustling Mojacar playa from the Moorish fortified town only minutes away in the
distance.
